Live Video, Video Rooms and Video Calling Updates

There is no doubt how we are communicating, and will continue to communicate with each other, has been altered. While we may be looking at these changes as a result of the pandemic, I invite you to look at these changes as a way to reach and change the lives of those that you may not otherwise be able to. For instance to creatively expand your business mission once we are all physically together again!

Let’s get into the updates:

Facebook Video Room

  • Facebook is adding 50-person video chatrooms called Messenger Rooms.

  • You will be able to create Messenger Rooms links to share privately or with your Facebook friends.

  • You can start and share Rooms on Facebook through the news feed, groups, and events.

  • Your friends will be able to view your active room from their feed. But you can choose to make your room private and only open to a selected list of friends.

  • The person who creates the Room must be present for the call to begin, controls who can join, and can remove someone if needed.

  • Dozens of people can join Rooms, even if they do not have a Facebook account, and use virtual backgrounds, 360 views, and augmented reality filters.

  • Rooms will eventually be available on Instagram, WhatsApp, and the Facebook Portal smart speaker.

  • Chatrooms will be displayed at the top of users' Facebook news feeds as well as on group pages.

Live Video Events

  • In the coming weeks you will be able to charge a fee for your Lives.

  • Small as well as larger public events will be able to utilize the events feature on Facebook to reach more audiences and invite them to view your Live.

  • Instagram Live videos will remain accessible via desktop.

  • Facebook Live With feature will be back allowing more than one person to go Live on Facebook, similar to Instagram.

  • On Instagram you will be able to post live streams to IGTV, not just to Stories and have the ability to save your Livestream videos to IGTV.

  • If you have limited data or a spotty connection, you will be able to listen to the audio-only on Live video feature.

Plus: Facebook is adding eight-person video calls to WhatsApp. As well as video-call functionality to Facebook Dating for 'virtual dates' (first names only).

This is the beginning of what is to come not only for Facebook but Zoom, Squarespace, Shopify, and email marketing tools like Mailchimp.

I have used all of these systems in some capacity for my own business and for clients. What I have found is, each one has been able to bridge a gap between them and their customers.

You see, all of these online marketing tools have allowed us in some way pivot or reconsider how we do business. But most importantly, how we provide a new wave of customer service.

So, explore what is to come! Test things out. Break the internet as we use to say. Only this time, break it by doing what feels right to your business mission. Break it by making mistakes because you tested one of these new features. Break it because you decide to not use these features. Whatever you decide, do it knowing you have these options presented today by Facebook, and who knows, tomorrow un pajarito may present us with even newer options.

¡Pero intenta algo!

¡Nos Fuimos!
